Dragon Brooch
| February 24, 2011 | Posted by thatgrrl under Creative Arts and Crafts |
I started reading City of Bones by Cassandra Clare this morning. I have been seeing her books around and I like the cover art. But they are written for younger people. The writing is good, the story and backstory (world building) are all good. But, I just feel I’m reading something too young for me.
Anyway, I went to Cassandra Clare’s website, wondering about one of the characters in the book who seems to disappear when I skimmed through it. Seems he lives, as a vampire, later in the book(s). I also found a link to a jewelry maker who is working on the jewelry written about in the book. I picked this dragon brooch as I like dragons and the design of this is dragonly and simple (which I also like). Have a look for more, hebelmet on Etsy.
Updated to Latest WordPress
| February 23, 2011 | Posted by thatgrrl under Uncategorized |
Trying out the new asides feature in the latest WordPress. I use a plugin for asides, so far. If this works about the same I will be able to eliminate a plugin from my list.
Turns out the new aside thing needs extra coding added. I’d rather not deal with that. Not that I haven’t before… I just don’t want to in this case. It is easy to keep using the plugin that already works without adding coding.
Ready to Die for It
| February 19, 2011 | Posted by thatgrrl under Uncategorized |
There’s a commercial that comes on for a Canadian made TV show about the rodeo. In the commercial one of the rodeo cowboys says, “If you love something you should be ready to die for it.” That may not be an exact quote as I had to type the background information and lost track of the exact words.
Anyway, I think that is a bit silly. I’m not ready/ prepared/ eager to die for anything. If you die you become dead. You don’t get to hit restart or re-do. You’re just done. If I was going to die for something it would have to be for more than just love. Oddly enough, I want to be here the next day to be with the people I love, do the things I love and just generally stick around.

These are on Amazon for sale. Too late for Valentine’s Day but really sweet set for someone. Wouldn’t they be cute for a girly tea party?
Yedi Houseware is the shop name on Amazon.
They come in colours too:

The above tea cup chandeliers come from Shabby Fufu. I like the one with the pink china roses and dangling tea cups best.

This one comes from Shabby Elegant Designs.
Valentine’s Day
| February 12, 2011 | Posted by thatgrrl under Creative Arts and Crafts, Holidays, Illustration and Art |
It’s a funny year for Valentine’s Day this year. I don’t see as much stuff in the stores, I don’t see as much written online or offline about it either. Like it’s fading into a sunset. Maybe it’s the Family Day, the new holiday added to February. There just isn’t room in the shortest month for two holidays. It’s sad. I like Valentine’s Day, whether I’m single, married, dating or divorced, I think a holiday for romance is a great idea.
If you aren’t half of a couple don’t let that stop you. Give yourself a day of something romantic, fun, luxurious and pampering in the way you would like to do but just don’t spend the time or money on yourself in that way. Make Valentine’s Day the day you give yourself an extra special day.
