Birthday at 1:00

Going to my nephew’s birthday party today. He is going to be 12. A big day for him. A noisy day for me.

It will be my last weekend (Saturday/ Sunday) off too. After this I have Tuesday and Wednesday as my weekend. Fine with me. But will be interesting when so many events are geared to standard weekends.

Happy Day.

If I Could Keep Time in a Bottle…

I’ve been looking at new digi cameras this morning. I should be working of course. but I don’t go into work till 3:30 and I’m slacking off all the other work this morning.

Nice to be looking at new cameras. I was at the Staples site and found two which interest me. Nice to have a goal in mind to work for while I’m at work. Not all the calls are yelling. Last Thursday was the worst. Even some of those aggressive types wind down and apologize often enough. I do understand the frustration of dealing with the big companies and trying to get your cable TV working… but… I’m just some schmuck trying to make a pay cheque so I can buy a used car and a new digi camera.

Anyway, not a day where I am accomplishing a whole lot. So far.

I did go online to the Min. of Transport and change the address on my driver’s license. That was a good thing. I even got my Mom’s license and did hers too. I really should get something else done. I’m working on it. Still a couple of hours before I need to think about catching the bus.

I want to write an article about rural exploring, or at least a query letter for an article about rural exploration. I’m aiming for Chatelaine and Canadian Living. Wouldn’t one of them just LOVE my pictures of abandoned farm houses along with a blab about finding them and taking the photos? Surely they are just waiting, drooling, at the chance to pick up an article like mine. I hope.

While I’m at work I think of all kinds of things to write about when I get home. But we can’t keep any paper and pens on the floor so I can’t make any notes for myself. By the time I get back here and sit down to write I can’t remember a thing. I’ve had some interesting ideas and deep thoughts. Too bad you missed them all.

So, I should get with the plan. The day is passing along. Time isn’t going to freeze just for me.

Famous Canadian Women You’ve Never Heard Of

We are making goodies for Thanksgiving dinner today. Sitting with a coffee in the kitchen while my cheesecake cooks I began browsing through a book about Canadian Heroines. It’s sad how many of these women I have never heard of.

In the US they seem to have a lot about their own history and the people in it. They learn in school about famous US men and some of the women too. In Canada we also learn a lot about world history, not so much our own though. When I was in high school you had the option of picking Canadian Literature, Canadian History and so on. Why wait till then? In University and College you come across courses about Canadian Women in History and other more narrowed down areas of interest. But, why do we have our people and our history shoved aside so that it has to be found? Does anyone know about Emily Stowe, Harriet Brooks, Maude Abbott or Alice Wilson? Those are all Canadian women.

Anyway, a nice time of year to think of some of these Canadian women. A time of year when things are settling down for winter. People are planning and cooking for family dinners together. Some are packing up the car and some are packing away things that were cluttering up the dining room. I hope everyone has family they can spend some time with, on the phone through an email or whatever is available. But, even if you feel you are alone, you’re not. We are all Canadians and we all have that in common with the Canadians here now and those forgotten long before we came around.

When you have your Thanksgiving, give thanks to Canadians. As Red Green says… “we’re all in this together”.

Indie Blogger WC: Cat Feet

Indie Blogger Weekly Challenge:

An inordinate amount of verbiage regarding:

You wake up and your feet are gone. No wounds, no pain, no explanation. You manage to get through it for a couple of weeks until, one day, they’re back. Only they’re worn a little, rougher, and the wrong size. And now you walk funny. Often, you start off to go to work or the store and hours later snap out of a daydream and find yourself miles from where you meant to be.

At first it was kind of aggravating and expensive to pay for all those extra bus tickets to get home. Then, once I began changing from the feet up, well, it was certainly different. Not quite the life I was used to. But, being a cat isn’t so bad. I get to wander all I ever could have wanted or dreamed of. I’ve seen places I never would have known about when I was still 5’4″ and walking upright. Opposable thumbs aren’t all they’re cracked up to be either, claws are pretty terrific – once you get used to being a bit careful about scratching your nose.

Getting The Camera Twitch

I keep my digicamera in my purse. It’s been in there awhile, lonely. No chances for pictures of abandoned farm houses lately. I’ve tried. Last weekend I thought I was going to escape out to the wild wrecky yonder. No luck. Family commitments.

I’m feeling the withdrawl symptoms. The shake of the camera holding hand. The tremble of the eye muscles, expecting to find the next ruin around the next bend in the next dirt road. I’ve got flash backs to the good old days when I was out there… cruising for my next fix. Free of buses, waiting for the bus to go to work. Being stuck on the same old route every day. It’s a trap.

This weekend, this Saturday, the plan is to getaway and find a site I noticed awhile ago. Right along the Grey Roots Museum. They never did answer my email.

Sci Fi Grrl on Another World

Working full time again is like living on another planet, in another world. I come home, I have dinner, I waste time watching TV and then I have to get to bed so I can start all over again the next day. So many things I want to do and don’t get done. This blog and the other one and my own site. I used to keep all those balls in the air, juggled around. It’s bugging me.

Tonight I came home late, the bus was running late, but I managed to finally get someone at Bell and straighten out the account for the digital TV. So, after two months, I finally have the science fiction channel. I thought they would have a bigger selection of the old shows like the Canadian Starlost which has always bugged me cause I never saw how they ended that, if they did. Also the new and old Doctor Who series from the UK. Others I’m sure I will think of later. Maybe they already had a run and were retired from the regular line up as people got tired of them. But, I’m new and I want to see the old tired stuff. It’s fun to watch the outdated science fiction as much as I enjoy seeing the new.

At least I can waste my time watching worlds end and aliens taking over and all the other odd and interesting things going on in science fiction these days.
