Peanut Butter as Caviar
| April 20, 2007 | Posted by thatgrrl under Uncategorized |
I’m getting tired of my body inflicting hunger upon me. Can’t I just out grow these annoying things like having to sleep and eat. They take up so much time. Plus, I’ve already got enough storage that my body should be able to just shut up and leave me alone about eating more of anything for awhile. I even gave it a buttered bagel tonight. Give it a rest already!
I have a day off tomorrow. It feels that way even though I am pretty much unemployed and just coasting along in my own afterlife. It has been good being busy and having a schedule to stick to this week. I know I need that I just don’t do very well at creating a schedule for myself, on my own. But, tomorrow there is no workshop. I did get a job offer today. I’m not sure about the facts, other than it is for some web content and general web geekery to get a site off the ground. I won’t say much else till I have more hard facts. But, it would be a part time thing, a paying part time thing which is a nice step up from all the non-paying part time things.
Also, there is a really terrific job I am going to apply for. But, when I research the company and the other people working there (although as directors and assorted bigshot titles) I feel I am peanut butter in a world of caviar. I might stick around but I won’t ever fit in. Still, the company is a non-profit (sounds like a think tank in laymans terms) and I would really enjoy reading about the ongoing projects they are thinking and researching upon. I had a look at what is mentioned on their website. So excellent! If I had gone a different direction in life I could have been one of the caviar types, thinking alongside the rest of the tank. But, here I am, just peanut butter.
Even peanut butter can apply though. I need to vamp up my domain and turn it into something like a writing portfolio. A real one not that pile of knicknacks I have tossed in it now. Not a very professional page. Way too peanut butter though fun.
Sometimes I feel really inferior compared to people who can build a computer with a few paperclips and a snippet of code. Yet other days I meet someone who calls me a geek and acts like I’m speaking a foreign language. I’m just your humble every day mouse swinger but I’m trying to be more. If I pretend enough maybe no one will notice the peanut butter on my fingers. Actually, the funny thing is that I don’t like peanut butter and I never have.
How to Be a Humour Blog

Don’t ask me. I’m just making the banner and sticking it here so I can join the Humour Blog Group. Notice the Canadian spelling, that’s just me. They don’t spell it the Canadian way. Just in case anyone but me notices these grammarian trivian things.

You’re in the Chicago Institute of Art, in the Monet room, sitting on a bench looking at “Woman With Parasol,” digging it. You’ve had a stand out day. It’s spring in Chicago, the sky is blue, the park is full of people, you’ve been witty and intelligent beyond the norm. Just a super excellent perfect version of yourself. Your party has moved on but you’re captured by the sheer brilliance of color, the spectacle of daubs of paint resolving into . . . this. You’re smiling a genuine ear to ear grin when you notice the most beautiful person in the world—we’re talking soul mate material here—sits down next to you, looks right into your eyes, and says:
“Lets run away on a whirlwind courtship, get married in some exotic country and live happily ever after.”
I blink, smile and say, “Only if I get to drive.”
So that’s what we do.
Oh yeah, if my Mom is reading this… his name turns out to be Tom Kilpatrick. He has Irish relatives from County Cork too. He works as a lion tamer when he isn’t getting serious as a highly overpaid corporate lawyer. He has eight brothers and sisters so that should be quite a crowd for all those family holidays. He is tall and has twinkling green eyes and he likes to read science fiction.
What else can I tell you Mom? We started out going to Russia cause I’ve always wanted to go there. We found an apartment somewhere in Moscow and stayed long enough to learn Russian and each other. We discovered body braille as we called it. From Russia he showed me Ireland and picked up the loveliest Irish accent just to make me laugh and lust after him even more. He thought my accent was cute too. We found an adult novelty shop that sold skimpy green lingerie. He looks really good in nothing but a sparkly green thing.
We were married last week in Thailand. It was an amazing spot with a waterfall and lots of rocks. We found it while hiking and brought all the necessary official stuff back there so it would be a legal and lovely wedding. So, I’m married again. We’re going to be on a honeymoon for the next five years then we’ll start on the happily ever after.
I should be back in Toronto in a few months. He says he’s looking forward to meeting you but he’s just pretending. I’ve told him what a hard ass you are, how you grind up boyfriends and spit them out as an afterthought. He’ll be so relieved when he meets you and finds out what a pushover you are in reality. See you soon Mom.

I was at an Interview Skills Workshop this afternoon. One of the interesting things I can remember was about researching the company before the interview. I already knew about the researching part but two new things were researching the competitors and researching market and industry trends. I think I already knew those too but had forgotten them. Funny how your brain stops stopping on a dime once you get old-ish.
We had to write four interview questions. One was something you would ask if you were the interviewer. The second was something you hate to answer when you are interviewed. The third was something illegal to be asked, such as demographic information. The fourth was something unusual/ wacky just to throw people off. I asked, “Is it ethical to flush goldfish?”
So your question for the day… is it ethical to flush goldfish? I mean not just the dead ones or those barely living. What about all those goldfish which are flushed just cause people are tired of watching them do nothing but float around, puff out their cheeks and poop. Excitement is not a goldfish.
Two interesting issues in the news lately: banning cell phones from schools and banning plastic grocery store bags from cities entirely.
On the cell phone thing I am comfortable with them being banned or at least restricted. Do we really need to tell everyone we are on the bus and thinking about stopping to get milk on the way home? Is that really important communication? No. People talking about boring stuff on the bus should be banned. If you can’t talk about something interesting just shut up or get off the bus and bore someone walking home.
Also, it is possible all that boring and useless cell phone use has begun killing off the bees. Think about your last call. Was it worth killing a bee for? Of course, it’s not just the bees. Bees are essential for pollinating plants. Next time you want to eat something from the plant world consider the bee who let the plants have sex so they could make little plants so you could eat them. Now, how do you feel about killing bees and causing plants to lose all the excitement they really have. It’s not like they can just walk over to another plant and buy them a drink.
As to the plastic bags… I wonder what will happen to everyone working so hard to make all those bags now. What about the oil producing countries who will see their income lost due to plastic bag banning. To each action there is a reaction. Yes, it’s good for the environment not to have those bags blowing in the wind but someone else will suffer for it. Wildlife won’t get stuck in bag handles. How will they amuse themselves? People won’t have a lifetime free supply of small sized garbage bags. I even have a garbage can thing which was created just to use those plastic grocery bags, the handles slip over the slots in the side of the can. What about that! What about the person who created that idea and patented it? They are going to be out of a vast fortune. That hardly seems fair.
Still, I do think the plastic grocery bags should go. It isn’t an easy decision for me. I have considered how I will need to buy an even bigger purse to hold all my non-flimsy (yet still some form of plastic) grocery bags. I have a nice one from M&M Meats which they gave me for free last time I shopped there and bought a ton of frozen stuff. I will have to get at least one more of those I think. However, it is a struggle to get even one folded and smushed up into my purse along with all the other necessary junk I cart around everyday. Something else will have to be sacrificed if I am going to fit in two of those. Don’t think that will be an easy choice to make. Or, that I only need to bring bags when I’m going grocery shopping. I never know when I will end up picking up a few things, along the way home or as I see a store when I am out wandering around doing important and vital things. I will always need to keep at least one bag in my purse for non-planned grocery shopping.
Yet, I put the environment first. If the plastic bags are banned here in Toronto I will manage… somehow. It’s for the turtles after all. Think of the turtles who have to live with those blasted bags sinking down into the wetlands once they blow away in some parking lot or other. Those bags never compost, they just stick around forever. The poor turtles have to live with them longest since none of the frogs and fish and other creatures live long enough to really care. So, if they ban grocery bags in your area, think of the turtles who you’ll be making very happy.
Stand Up!

Monster Friends
| April 18, 2007 | Posted by thatgrrl under Uncategorized |
Urghh! It’s not that I’m a nasty anti social hermit. Well, not totally. But it bothers me how people on social sites expect me to call them my friend for the least reason. I know it’s all about building traffic, getting their site pimped higher on Google and other whoresome things. That doesn’t make me feel any better about it.
A friend should be someone that actually matters to you. Someone you actually have kind feelings for and about. Someone you could meet some day and find common ground, good conversation and a few laughs about life. A friend is not someone who clicks on your site and invites themself into your world as if they know you. I know I’m being a bit overboard. But, it does irk me that the term friend has come to mean something very different and not very worthy.
Some people you meet online and do click with. In my case, I go back to read their blogs and see what they are doing. I may never live close enough to just arrange to meet them for coffee on the weekend but I enjoy hearing from them and taking the time to get to know them. Friendship can happen online but it is something that grows rather than something you step into.
I’m not someone who has or keeps friends. I move too much and have grown into the custom of leaving people where I found them. I am not a good friend when it comes to long distance. Though I grew up as the great letter writer of my family and friends I am not that person any more. My Grandparents are all dead and Canada Post just won’t send my letters there. I’ve had a lot of friends over my life and I do think of them now and then. I just don’t get to see them or hear about how their lives have been going. Maybe someday…
I am still getting rid of this cold. It’s getting gone. My head is full of snot, I can hear but it all sounds like it’s coming from another room. Really an interesting experience. Sort of like losing your voice and yet it’s hearing. I was at a Subway shop (a sandwich chain) and the server was talking to a friend (in Greek I think), very loudly. I could not hear her asking me if I wanted pickles and etc over this other woman talking. It was really beginning to peeve me off but I kept a smile and endured. Though, it was horribly rude of them both to behave that way. Sometimes you just pick your battles and I was not quite up for a battle today.
Zack and I had a funny thing happen this past week when I was there. I drove to the bookstore on Mulock which is a fairly busy street in Newmarket. As we neared another busy intersection two ducks crossed the street in front of the car. I had to make that decision… to roadkill or not to roadkill. It was not so simple as being nice and not squishing ducks. There were cars behind me, driving too close as people tend to do. There was a light ahead which had changed from red to green and the oncoming cars were already through it. The ducks were only on my side. But, I did save the ducks.
Zack would have been upset if I had gotten them. I wouldn’t have been happy about it, ducks are not like those ratty squirrels and pigeons, but I did not want another car smashing into my back bumper. (Likely that would have pushed me into the ducks anyway). But, the ducks and myself were lucky this time. I think the car behind must have been watching (paying attention to the road) cause we both waited for Ma and Pa Duckworth and the driver behind did not honk at me. (Neither did the ducks).
Since then I’ve been seeing ducks all over the place. Maybe it’s just the season. But, funny to see pairs of ducks nearly every time I am out since that day.

Do you follow me? Are you following through? Do you wonder what I’m writing about? Me too. Leigh over at ThoughtPrints knows. From what I understand, some blogware does not allow comments to be found by the search engine spiders. Blogger is one which lets comments be found/ followed. WP has a plugin available. So, this list is for blogs which allow comments to be found and followed. Who do you love to read and comment upon?
–copy below to your own blog–
1. Write a short paragraph at the beginning of your post and link back to the blog that put you on the list in the paragraph. This isn’t a suggestion. You need to break up the duplicate content. Someone took the time to add you so the least you can do is give them an extra link back.2. Copy the list of originals below COMPLETELY and add it to your blog. If you would like a different keyword for your blog then change it when you do your post and it should pass to most blogs with that keyword.
3. Take the adds from the blog that added you and place them in the “Originals” list.
4. Add at least 1 new blog that you KNOW is using the DO FOLLOW plugin to the list in the “My Adds” section. (Add no more than 5!) Let the people you’ve added know, so that they can keep the list going!
